MxMax’s Top Surgery Fund

I’m a transmasculine queer guy and single parent in my late 30s. Gender identity is something I have struggled with for many years. But in an age before the internet and readily available resources, I dismissed the massive amounts of dysphoria I’d suffered since around the age of 8 as other things. It has only been since the birth of my child a couple of years ago that I finally began to address my gender identity. I socially transitioned in April 2017 and have now been on hormone therapy for six months. This has made a massive difference in my life already. The only thing really holding me back, and causing dysphoria that is still at times debilitating, is my chest.

I have been on the NHS waiting list for a Gender Identity Clinic for almost 18 months and have not yet had my first appointment with them. So I made the decision to start my transition privately. So far the costs have been relatively low. But surgery is far beyond my finances. I have the incredible fortune of having an amazingly supportive family who are helping me cover some of the cost of my surgery. So I am currently trying to raise the other half. 

I recently saw a surgeon about top surgery I am super excited to have this literal weight lifted and just have the one hurdle to overcome – finances.

The surgery is costing me £6500, but my family are helping with some, so I just need to find the remaining £3500 before the op date in June. Any extra will go towards the short hotel stay in London I will need after the op.

Raffle for Mariano!

Hey guys! If you follow me from over six months you will know money has been a huge issue for me, I lost my job, was evicted, moved to a new place, got a new job, got injured, spent my savings on doctors and the move, my boyfriend lost his job. Wonderful Fannibal helped me pay my last medical bills and even my last college fee! And I am forever grateful. But sadly my boyfriend is still unemployed and after the earthquake in Mexico last September we lost many things we had to replace, not to mention the money spent on therapy i have to pay for the PTSD I developed from what I saw that day…. 

But today I need help once again, not for me but to help pay for an emergency surgery for Mariano, my 12 year old baby. He has always been healthy, a few months back he got a bad infection on his chest, but it turned out to be a sign of something worse. You can read more about it here but He had a fever, immense pain, he was not eating or moving. We took him to the bet and they told us he had a huge abscess on his prostate. He spent 5 days in the hospital before he was stable enough to go into surgery. He got 5 points and a cone of shame to help him close up.

The change was noticible, he is my happy pup again, he is happy, jumpy, he is eating, he is getting back weigth, he is playing and walking around and barking like he did before. Doctor told us he really wants to live and that is why he managed to recover. He is old, and his kidneys are weaker, so we were also prescribed special food and vitamins. 

But now it’s time to pay my credit card and things piled up… I can’t afford to pay for all of it. We had to buy food, pay the hospital bill, the surgery, the equipment, the blood tests… I am not kidding we have spent more than 6000 pesos on this sickness alone. I’m forced to ask for help once more, but I want to give something back! So I am preparing a Raffle!

Hello, Help(?), and Goodbye with Love

Hi there my lovely friends.

It’s been a while – again (again). Lots of things have been happening in my life that made what was supposed to be a temporary retirement a semi-permanent one, and I certainly never intended to take a hiatus this long. As you’ve probably guessed by now, I’ve had to retire from fandom – for reasons both good and bad. I do miss you all very much, but I don’t think I’ll be back properly until next year.

I have been dealing with a chronic pain issue that, whilst manageable, has caused some really rough patches in the last few months. I recently had an ultrasound to find out more (inconclusive), and I’ll be visiting my doctor next week to discuss more permanent solutions. With the lows do come the highs – I’ve been adjusting really well to my depression & anxiety meds and making great progress there according to my doctors.

With all of this going on, plus more real life stress besides, I haven’t had the time to write that I wanted, or hoped, I would have. I’ve also got some fun medical bills piling up. Having been absent for so long, I have no right to ask this, but I’ve got nowhere else to turn. I’ve used up the good graces of my parents (which is embarrassing enough to have to deal with as a supposed ‘adult’) and I’m at a dead end for the next month until I get paid for my next freelancing gig.

So I’m asking, shamefaced and with cap in hand. If anyone is able to help me through, I would be forever grateful. If you’ve helped me before, you don’t have to again. This will be my last post for 2017. Sorry it’s such a downer. I will say this – my life was changed the moment I joined the Hannibal fandom and I will be eternally grateful for it. You brought me out of a dark place and helped me find joy in myself and my writing, and whatever happens down the road, I will always hold you in my heart with the greatest love.
