Episode 15: Four Sided Triangle

Will rolled over when the alarm went off and the shackles on his ankles banged into him. He winced and caught sight of the time.

“Shit!”

He slipped on his threadbare shoes, worn away after a hellish year, and just got to the door when it opened on him.

“It’s past seven, boy. You lazing around?,” the accusation there made him back up.

“No, sir. I was,” he swallowed, “I had trouble standing with the chains.”

His captor Garret grinned and his gaze traveled down his exposed legs.

“You’re looking fine to me.”

Will had seen that look before, knew it well, and had gotten out of it more times than he could count. He didn’t have anywhere to run.

“Sir, I need to collect the eggs and milk the–”

Garret went to close the door when a voice interrupted them.

“Daddy! Breakfast!”

Garett looked irritated but he turned away to walk down the hall and Will breathed a sigh of relief. He’d rather die than let that asshole touch him.

He hurried out past Garett and his daughter Abigail, the fresh air a welcome change.

Today was his three hundred and sixty second day living in captivity at Hobbs Farm. Just as the three hundred and sixty one days before it, Will longed for the comfort of a life sentence in a jail cell.

But he was starting to think he’d die here.

The castle took days to even see in the horizon, their long mornings and nights filled with preparation.

Will had brought his sword and Beverly her dagger, though the two of them were ill prepared for what awaited in the Queen’s arsenal.

She needed no weapons Hannibal knew, only her looks and sorcery, and despite his desire to see an end to things the closer they came he grew more worried.

They could not defeat her.

The valiant attempt, lovely idea of it, would be recorded in the books of history but even he knew the depths of her strength.

But Will seemed to know his desire to run off without them for the Prince kept close eye every evening Hannibal even let his mind wander to abandonment.

Days had passed and Will’s beauty was marred by signs of sleepless nights, though the sunken depth of his eyes did add an eerie quality to his loveliness.

They were less than a day from her when things finally came to a head.

Continued here

Adam Raki is never going to get married.

He comes to this conclusion even before the end of his season when the lack of alpha attentions was already overwhelmingly obvious. His father has chalked it up to each alpha not being “his one” and he agrees for most did not seem to be able to stomach him for more than a dance.

At least not after he’d told them the rules of courting him.

Rule #1: No kissing.

Any proper omega worth their salt knew you should not put the cart before the horse and his own father had made these rules so he trusted him to be truthful. So what if he’d seen Bethany in the bushes with nearly every omegan who batted their eyelashes at her? Who cared if he knew Will Graham had already impregnated his omega fiance the day after they met?

Things such as a kiss before a marriage bond were reckless and just something he would never do.

Rule #2: No unsupervised rendezvous.

He knew most omegas once they’d found their someone were more than happy to go gallivanting around in the dark to be near them but that was how unwed and unbonded pregnant omegas were made. He would not go out without a proper chaperone. No matter how handsome or beautiful an alpha was.

Rule #3: No ingestion of liquors or tobacco products.

Adam’s father smokes a pipe and he does not enjoy the scent, not at all, which means he rides  in a separate carriage to every ball. He knows pipes are all the rage though he does not understand the appeal. He will not have a husband who ingests those things nor will he ever do it himself.

Rule #4: No more than one dance.

This rule he often wishes he felt differently on, though he had yet to have an alpha who asked for more than one all season long. He longs at times to get properly danced with, the perfect alpha hold as they move and sway along. That doesn’t seem to be occuring in the near future and he thinks perhaps he should worry about this.

Rule #5: No unseemly conversation.

Adam hears omegas whisper about such talk at balls, giggling behind their hands at alpha’s posturing talk of ‘filling’ and ‘tasting’ that he just will not be a part of. He does not understand that type of talk being anything but inappropriate and disgusting.

He has spent the last few months since he came of age turning most alphas away because of his regimented rules but his father says “those are not your person” which helps his anxious feelings on the subject.

The idea that he may spend the rest of his life dealing with heats alone is not the worst thing as he is not entirely comfortable with strangers.

Also he feels no excitement about going to balls.

Adam more and more is thrilled not to be paid much mind. The events his father brings him to he starts to wander around in more than stay in view of the ballroom.

He spends time in the libraries, the porches, or more often than not, the garden.

It’s there, sitting on a bench in the garden of Lord Renoir’s estate, that he first sees The Man in Black.

Tales from the Crypt Episode 26: Carrion Death

Most men would’ve given up by now.

Four states, twenty three casualties, and nothing to show for it but a black eye. The frustration and irritation of it all made Will want to tear the flesh from Hannibal Lecter’s bones, but it didn’t make him want to stop.

Will Graham was not like most men.

For one? He was the only one who’d come face to face with Hannibal Lecter and lived.

For another? He was the only one who could still look into the monster’s eyes and see the man he’d fallen in love with.

The distasteful thought made him ill but on he drove through the bleak Nevada desert, the motorcycle up ahead of him a beacon he was almost certain he’d follow to his death. Hannibal was not at all happy with him after the mess in Wolf Trap, the pile of bodies, and the scars they now both had. Will thought for a moment of Matt, poor Matt who hadn’t done a thing wrong but be in his bed. The anger in which he’d been slaughtered should not have induced such warmth in Will, he knew these months he’d followed Hannibal had already warped his brain somehow.

He was determined to fix that once and for all.

Will sighed and sped up, flipped on the radio and scoffed at the announcer.

‘News at the top of the hour, every hour! The latest on the hunt for Hannibal the Cannibal, now edging up on the lists of the most prolific killers of all time! He has stolen a motorcycle and was seen–’

He shut it off and spotted a sign up ahead, Gas n’Gulp, a place to stop in the vast desert around them.

Hannibal slowed and Will sped up, pulled alongside him to pull out his gun.

“Pull over now!”

Hannibal’s face was covered by a helmet but Will could take that one good shot and end it all right now. His hand shook and Hannibal sped up just as Will’s gas light came on.

“Damnitt, NO!”

He almost tried to follow and knew better, turning into the gas station as Hannibal disappeared up the road.

If he got gas quickly and was on the road right after he’d only miss him by a mile or so. Things would be fine.

It had to be fine.

They’d never lost each other for more than a few hours, part of Will thought perhaps Hannibal waited for him but that seemed far fetched, and this time would be no different.

The station was old fashioned and half deserted but Will walked inside to throw down a twenty.

“Twenty on three.”

“There you go,” the old man said with a smile, “You look tired, son.”

Will smiled back and took his receipt. “Too tired.”

He walked outside and wiped the sweat from his brow. The sun was high in the sky and beating down at a hundred five he’d read. He thought for a second about going back inside for a drink but realized he’d taken too much time already.

The gas went through quick and he was back on the road in less than ten minutes by his clock. He eyed the road in front of him and saw nothing, though Hannibal was there.

Will knew he wouldn’t get far.

The convenience store was out of chocolate carrots.

Adam stared at the dog shifter behind the counter and tried not to cry. “You always have them.”

“I’m sorry, Sir. I thought we had some but—“

Adam held his belly. “I need them.”

“I—“

There was a sudden familiar scent and he looked behind him.

It was the panther.

Jean.

His brother’s mate was not his favorite person but he was better than the dog.

“They don’t have my chocolate carrots.”

Jean’s eyes narrowed. “I see. Sir, could you please tell me why a store that normally carries every brand of popular chocolate would not carry the most popular brand preferred by rabbit shifters? Are you against rabbits personally?”

The dog shook his head. “No, I…I…lemme look in the back. Maybe we have some.”

He took off running and Adam’s stomach growled. “Thank you.”

“You should have everything you want especially when you’re with child.”

Adam felt the babies kick. “They agree with you, I think.”

“Your mate should not let you out alone in such a state. It’s unsafe.”

Adam glared at him. “Nigel isn’t my keeper, he’s my mate. There aren’t mates who rule and ones who don’t. We’re partners. Do you rule Adam, Jean?”

“I did not mean offense. I just find it odd that you’re in this situation without your wolf.”

Adam’s hand shook as he raised it only for the dog to come back.

“I found some! A whole box!”

He put the open box on the counter and went to take it out a small bag but Jean put a hand over his.

“We will take the whole case.”

He put down two hundred dollar bills.

“I won’t eat that many and they go bad fast.”

Jean smiled. “You are not the only one who eats them.”

Some Bunny’s in Trouble

They spent the rest of their morning admiring the tree and sharing stories, mostly of Christmases past though the relative calm did not last long.

“How is your stomach?” Hannibal asks, rubbing a circle at his back.

“Surprisingly okay,” Will sighs, leaning back against him, “Maybe I should only eat fruit for the next eight months.”

Hannibal kisses his cheek and scents along the back of his neck.

“That would be counterproductive and not very good for the children’s development.”

Will laughs. “I was joking. I’m sure we’ll find a system.”

Hannibal kisses his ear. “Yes, we will.”

He feels when Will tenses up in his arms. “I think I want to make that call now. It’s gotta be past ten now, yeah?”

Hannibal reaches behind him and picks up his cell phone. “Yes, it’s a quarter after. You’re certain you wish to do this, despite knowing he may be less than enthusiastic?”

Will takes Hannibal’s hand and puts it on his slightly protruding belly. “Yeah, I really do.”

“Do you need to get your cell phone or do you know the number?”

Will scoffs. “It’s been a long time, but yeah I know the number. He’d never change it.”

Hannibal hands Will the phone and kisses the back of his ear while he dials.

The ringing sounds much louder than it is while they wait and Will settles back against him with a sigh. “Your favorite Christmas song?”

“Silent Night.”

“Was your family religious? I–”

The phone ringing cuts off and a gruff voice interrupts their discussion. “Yeah?”

“Hey Dad, it’s me. Will.”

“I knew it was you,” Will’s father says, “It ain’t like I have any other folks who call me Dad.”

Hannibal feels Will grab his hand tightly.

“Yeah, I guess. I was just calling to say Merry Christmas and…I have some news.”

“News? You decide to quit that damn job of yours and come home? I got lots of work clogging up the garage you could do, you know.”

Will laughs. “No, not that. I…well I got mated.”

The other end of the phone is quiet for a moment before Will gets his answer.

“Have you lost your mind, boy? Did I teach you nothing about that shit? You know that letting yourself become dependent on some goddamn alpha will bring you nothing but–”

Hannibal grabs the phone before WIll can protest, his anger rising by the moment.

“Hello, Mister Graham. My name is Hannibal Lecter and I am Will’s alpha. I would appreciate it if you did not sour my mate on our union, especially today of all days as we are celebrating our first Christmas together. If you—”

“Now what just a goddamn minute! This is none of your business, alpha. I’m talking to my boy and he needs to listen to reason. Not think with his wet pucker and pant after the first alpha who smells fancy enough. He’s in for nothing but—”

“Hannibal, just give me the phone,” Will says, holding out his hand.

Hannibal’s lip curls as he hands it over and feels bereft when Will gets up from the couch, leaving the room to continue the conversation.

The lack of his immediate scent in the room is distressing and he resists the urge to follow. Will’s departure makes it perfectly clear he wants to be alone in this and he must respect that.

He sighs and gets up from the couch, walking to the tree and finding a small black gift box hidden at the base. It’s unwrapped but still quite ornate with the letter L embroidered on the lid.

Perhaps today was not the day for this particular gift.

Truly, Madly, Deeply ~ Chapter Eleven

Will finds himself alone when he wakes in the morning and Hannibal’s side of the bed feels long cold. He takes a deep breath and his belly rumbles when he smells bacon just as his stomach flips.

“No, no,” he cries, “It’s Christmas!”

He almost loses last night’s dinner on the expensive carpet before he even makes it to the toilet bowl. The heaving wrenches make him moan and before long Will slides down to hold the rim.

There is a soft knock on the door but Will does not look up to see Hannibal’s approach.

“I’ve brought your mango blended drink,” he says, “If you think the children will let you stomach it.”

“Mango smoothies on Christmas?” Will teased, “You spoil me.”

He didn’t lift his head up though or even try to take the drink.

“If you’d like to spend the day in bed that is quite all right. I can bring your gift to you and the dogs are already wearing their….”

“Wearing? My dogs don’t wear…oh christ, you didn’t get them sweaters or anything did you?”

Will lifts his head up so fast he’s dizzy a moment but tries to stand anyway. Hannibal’s touch makes his world steadier when he grabs an offered hand.

“No, it’s much too warm inside for that,” Hannibal mutters, “They are merely Christmas adorned.”

Will steps down a few stairs and Winston runs up to greet them wearing a Christmas bandana around his neck.

He smiles and lets Winston lick him before petting the soft fur on his head. “Well thankfully the bandanas aren’t fur-lined.”

Hannibal holds him tight around the waist and Will leans into him as they walk. “Some of them are.”

Will laughs and nuzzles his neck once just before they make it down. He turns only to blink in surprise.

“Merry Christmas, Will.”

The house is lightly decorated in what Will hopes Hannibal had hidden away somewhere. He walks two steps and the dogs all come at once wearing small bandanas like Winston. He bends down and touches Buster under the chin.

“I can’t believe you got them to wear these.”

Hannibal scoffs. “I believe we have all come to an understanding, it was not very difficult.”

Will turns to smile at him. “What’s the understanding? Here’s tons of treats if you do as I say? I…did you feed my dogs people?”

Hannibal frowns. “I’ve fed you human meat, what is the difference where the dogs are concerned?”

He laughs and turns towards Hannibal with hands outstretched. The soft kiss they share is almost chaste but Will still feels it in his bones. “There isn’t one, I guess. I just…did you have all of this hidden away?”

“Our worries had superseded my need to decorate the house, especially since I have no one to impress for dinner parties, but after our talk last night…”

Will puts his hands on Hannibal’s cheeks. “You decided you needed to impress me?”

“You are my Star, are you not? Fallen from the sky only for me?”

“I used to hate that story,” Will whispers as he leans in to nuzzle Hannibal’s neck, “No one wants to be the center of anyone’s attention like that. The whole of someone’s world.”

He feels Hannibal’s fingers in his hair and sucks at his mark. “Why, beloved?”

Will lifts his head. “Because what if I can’t keep your attention?”

Hannibal sighs. “We have not known each other long, Will, but I regret to inform you of something you may have missed in such a short time. You became the center of my attention the moment I saw you.”
